Someone explain to me how Gild was literally the worst book I have ever read, but somehow I’ve made it 3/4 through Gleam and now I want to stand by Auren’s side and watch her burn this castle to the ground while she frees Digby and the saddles and nails Midas’s severed head to a dartboard?

I really want an Ever After: A Cinderella Story moment at the end of the Plated Prisoner series. (I’m on the third book).
I want Slade and Auren to marry in secret and Midas to come looking for Auren and Slade going “Oh have you met my wife?” And Auren appears and tells Midas that she will not think about him ever again and then she just turns him into gold.

Book recommendation:
The Plated Prisoner trilogy
Genre: new adult, romance, fantasy, retelling, mythology, fae.
No. of books: five (2 unreleased)
Synopsis for book 1 (Gild):
The fae abandoned this world to us. And the ones with power rule.
Gold.
Gold floors, gold walls, gold furniture, gold clothes. In Highbell, in the castle built into the frozen mountains, everything is made of gold.
Even me.
King Midas rescued me. Dug me out of the slums and placed me on a pedestal. I’m called his precious. His favored. I’m the woman he Gold-Touched to show everyone that I belong to him. To show how powerful he is. He gave me protection, and I gave him my heart. And even though I don’t leave the confines of the palace, I’m safe.
Until war comes to the kingdom and a deal is struck.
Suddenly, my trust is broken. My love is challenged. And I realize that everything I thought I knew about Midas might be wrong.
Because these bars I’m kept in, no matter how gilded, are still just a cage. But the monsters on the other side might make me wish I’d never left.
The myth of King Midas reimagined. This compelling adult fantasy series is as addictive as it is unexpected. With romance, intrigue, and danger, the gilded world of Orea will grip you from the very first page.
TW: This book contains explicit content and darker elements, including mature language, violence, and non-consensual sex.
My review:
Rating: 4/5⭐️
I’m the darling of King Midas, ruler of Highbell and the Sixth Kingdom of Orea. People flock to see me just as much as they come to look upon his gleaming castle worth more than all the riches in the entire realm.
I’m the gold-plated prisoner.
But what a pretty prison it is.
This book was unputdownable for me. I literally devoured every page and the author did a very good job at keeping me hooked. This is the first book I read by Raven Kennedy so I did not know what to expect. I am happy to say that I am impressed so far.

I must point out that this book heavily focuses on building up the story, the world and the characters. Plot-wise, not much is going on "until the last 30% of the story" but if the build up points out to anything, it is that the best is yet to come.
There is potential for this trilogy to turn out to be epic and I hope that is where the next two books lead up to.
To give you a taste of the story, I'll try my best to summarize it in a way that is not very spoiler-y.
In a realm called Orea, there are six kingdoms ruled by six kings. The story primarily takes place in the sixth kingdom ruled by King Midas, the golden ruler of Highbell.
The heroine of the story is Auren.
The King's favorite.
His precious one.
His gold-touched.
His gilded pet.
Unlike any other heroine, Auren exists within her golden flesh. Everything about her is coated in gold except for her white teeth and pink tongue. At the age of 15, Auren was a homeless girl and a victim of child trafficking until Midas saved her. For ten years she shows her gratitude to her savior even if he keeps her in a gilded prison, even if he marries another woman for power, and even if he uses her as a bargaining tool. She is the one he gold-touched, she is his forever.
She loves him. Her Tyndall.
Auren at a point becomes a prize to be claimed by greedy kings. She is thrust into political schemes and feels like a prey to be hunted by warring kingdoms. The sixth and fifth kingdoms scheme and plot to provoke the ruthless fourth kingdom and its vicious yet mysterious ruler, King Ravinger, who is said to decimate any enemy stepping into his territory.
Hundreds of years ago, Orea coexisted with the realm of the Fae, Annwyn. Orean magic was founded because of the Oreans and the Fae mixed together. But years later magic slowly died out and Fae do no longer cross Orea nor do Oreans cross into Annwyn. No more Fae set a foot in Orea because the Fae betrayed the Oreans 300 years ago.
Once upon a time, along with the six kingdoms there was a seventh kingdom but it is long gone along with the Fae. Now, only six warring kingdoms remain and ruthless kings are led by their own greed.
As we know, the Fae do not leave a place without leaving a touch of their magic in it.
Auren is not but a victim in this political scheme and she yearns to be forever left alone and locked away in her gilded cage where it is safe.
But... little does Auren know that stepping out of her cage means she will see the world for what it truly is. Will it let her question the reality of her situation? Will it challenge the fierce love she feels for Midas? Can she face the truth about all she had endured?
So if I make it through this, if I live, I vow to myself that I won’t let it happen again. I won’t sit idly by and keep letting men crush me in their fists.
I want to praise the author because she excels at her craft when it comes to the world-building. The lush world she builds up with every page is very intriguing and it kept me invested. The author seamlessly blends political intrigue and fantasy into the story which gives it a distinctive streak.
The flow of the story was perfect! I did not even check how many pages I have left and I was surprised when I found that I am more than halfway through the story, I was THAT engrossed.
The characters were all interesting and while some felt like background characters while others were more fleshed out.
The heroine, Auren, may come off as a bland character. That's what I thought for the first half of the book. But since we experience the story through her POV, I start to understand the person she is. She is basically a victim of Stockholm Syndrome. She reminds me of Feyre in the sense that despite being spoiled in riches and hailed as the King's favorite, you can point out the red flags. Regardless, she is a prisoner who is kept isolated and she plays the part well. You can't expect her to act in a certain way no matter how outraged you feel because she is basically groomed to be the way she is, she is constantly manipulated. I'm glad to see that there were moments where she questioned the world around her and I got to see her a few times in action. Overall, I have to say the character development was there but I think the next book will push Auren's growth significantly.
You're probably wondering what the romance is about.. I don't think I can spill much about the romance in this book because well.. "spoilers". Let me just say in that aspect, it isn't exactly nurtured but there definitely is a great potential for it in the next book if the story leads up to where I think it will and I'm very excited. There's a reason why this is recommended for fans of Sarah J Maas and Jennifer L. Armentrout.
The slow development of the plot did not bother me much because it kept feeding my anticipation and oh boy did it take a 180 turn towards the end. My excitement just skyrocketed and I have a really good feeling that the next book will be 100 times better because of that cliffhanger. I can kind of see where this is going and I'm absolutely here for it!
It was kind of hard to predict how the events would unfold and that is not necessarily a bad thing because it kept me excited and I really enjoyed that.
Remember.. this is an adult book so there will probably be scenes that some readers may find to be uncomfortable or even triggering (TW mentioned above).

Endless list of AB things TSP transfered to KoA: the letters in s1; the breastfeeding; the outspoken outbursts; the "I must do degrading things to make Henry horny" well this last isn't from real Anne but from TOBG but whatever (ch.3's sex scene was so ridiculous BTW); I fear KoA will be seen reading Tyndale in next chapter, it's almost funny how Emma Frost insist Anne Boleyn is so overrated but she's taking things from Anne's story (even TOBG's fictional stuff) and inserting them in KOA's.
Hi there!
I think that’s what has made a lot of Anne Boleyn fans annoyed. This is suppose to be a feminist show where women stick up for each other against the patriarchy and build each other up and I will say that The Spanish Princess is the first in the trilogy to have women be friends with each other, but for how long, who knows.
That’s why it bugs people when the writer of the show talks so much about strong women and how they were judged and this show is supposed to shine a light on their achievements and how they fought to keep themselves above ground, but then will go on to call Anne Boleyn - a woman who has been slandered for the last 500 years and possibly the most hated of all Henry’s wives - overrated and have their cast also express this view (even if some of them were forced to - I’m looking at you Ruairi, don’t follow the pack) is sad and basically takes away from the message they are suppose to be broadcasting. Yes, Anne Boleyn is often more focused on than the other wives, but how’s it her fault that people find her interesting, the woman was beheaded and was the mother to Elizabeth I, of course people are going to talk about her.
It doesn’t bother me too much that they took some inspiration from TOBG because although PG isn’t involved in this show, TSP and TOBG are both written by her and since EF doesn’t seem to have any new ideas of her own, it makes sense she would use more books by PG, instead of her trying to take credit for things that The Tudors did first and yes I do think she watched that show and thought “I’ll do that, who will know?”
Yeah, her saying that Anne Boleyn is overrated and other things, I haven’t read news articles, but I think she goes into it more, is laughable because if she was as overrated as EF thinks that then why use her history to make Katherine’s more interesting and that’s not a slap at the real KoA, but the show version of her. There are many things they could have done to make her relationship with Henry interesting, like their role playing games, but even when they did do that, they resorted to making it creepy, instead of the playful nature it was in history. Also, that scene between Henry and Katherine in episode 3 was disturbing and the fact he had to resort to “I won’t be force” says a lot. I also thought it was interesting that he told her to turn around and pull her hair back so he could see her neck, again reminding us of Anne Boleyn.
I honestly think the EF is trying to turn Katherine into the harpy version of Anne Boleyn that people who dislike Anne like to portray her as and it’s just disrespectful to Katherine and to Anne. They might have Katherine reading Tyndale, since they have had Anne not know that Solomon was rich, although in show Anne’s defendence Solomon is more known for his wisdom, I think they should have used Midas as an example of a rich king.
Thanks for the ask, sorry if a blathered too long. If anyone has any questions relating to TSP or Tudor history in general feel free to ask.

I wanna share smth here since a while
There are snow covered mountains inside my mind dwindling as the paradigm of my soul shifts i ache in the closet of my body locked inside, looking for the eyes that match mine yet whenever i find a place to disintegrate It eats me up like lava from a dormant volcano this doesn't make sense these sentences composed like rotting vineyard.
Yet I sip them as a medicine because that's what bitter is supposed to represent, isn’t it ? healing that never starts yet somehow they see me getting better but have I really healed ? in the middle of sorrows i start a bonfire of fermented dreams smelling like fruits with black scars where live the worms of desires, crawling as if it is their only home, the bricks of this wall inside my mind have soaked enough tears to make this home seem like a cradle of a toddler who never sleeps, a lullaby that never reaches his ears and bloodshot eyes that demand for mercy, a deathless sleep... this is not a poetry but a confession hurled at the gods of lies who hunt down truth like crushing an ant between the hem of the fingers this is ugly, my fight flawed almost human like. Yet there is divinity in these verses that chant my sins like psalms
An embodiment of mistakes, my body twists and turns in the search of peace. Yet all it gains is painless pain piercing my numb skin like needles im turning into stone my atrophied muscles of happiness have forgotten to smile but here i stand in front of the camera looking straight at you, the listeners of my misfortune and try to show my dimpled cheek.
A crater hiding all the sadness falling from the skies of my inner world like rains, I dont dance this time I hide I hide I hide beneath the leaves of an autumn stricken tree what a disease a season must be! what a cure spring must bring!
a medusa, sprinkles snakes of my crawling sadness like fairy dust every where I go
a midas, turn moments into gold, forever frozen and expensive for a poor farmer of desires like me, it all run in cycles and I with my heaving chest , pant exhaling out nights, dusks and sunsets everything ending.
A yawn of finality in the last moments.
Tell Me, you great listener ‘ how do I kill the Judas in my heart ? ‘
A debauchery of unbalanced promises and a virgin future waiting for me like a first touch.
Tell me, ‘ why do i seek this pain a masochism by harmed self ? ‘ im not a poet if this is what you mean, when you say how I must go through the dark to reach the end of tunnel because truth be told I am the corrupt constructor leaving clues of minute holes all over, so when someone suffocate, they find life within the dark.
People have acclamatised to the dark like a moth who no longer needs light to survive, the night lamps on empty lanes are deserted now and tunnels, have homes with gardens and drying clothes, kids playing in the backyard and people falling in love under the moon made of fireflies there are stars that shine not lighted up by the sun and when a firefly dies wishes come true and yet towards the rear of this tunnel is a tyndall of light luring the loyals.
What a disease light must be for the lovers of dark.
What a cure this journey must bring that never starts.
Tell Me, you scholar of happiness ‘ where do the sad people go after they die ? ‘ I’ll answer .. their ashes flying in the skies inhaled by you settle in your lungs and grow into fireflies this is to say that maybe crematorium is not as sad as the real world maybe setting sun is rising moon maybe the gates of tunnel are the beginning of a world which thrive on the storms of past and waves of uncertain future maybe when you tell me to heal I might die maybe when you want me to cross the tunnel i might just stay inside look at the absence of sun and smile maybe when you and i blink our worlds collide in those few moments of darkness
reminding us how we are the children of the dark fathered by a widower light...

I've started reading the Plated Prisoner series and I had a thought about Midas and how he treats Auren. (I'm on the second book now I'm almost 200 pages in so please no spoilers)
There's a bit of dialogue from the DC animated film Teen Titans: Judas Contract that comes to mind. It's when Damian is talking to one of the characters about the bad guy who's groomed them since they were a child and it kept playing in my head. So here's the dialogue:
Damian: "He's lying to you. About Everything."
Tara: "He had you pegged from the start."
Damian: "That's how he does it. Mixing truth with lies."
Tara: "You're so freaking annoying. You don't know anything about him. He saved me."
Damian: "Let me guess, he kept you isolated. Dependent. Told you everyone was your enemy. Trained you ruthlessly. And promised you exactly what you wanted."
Midas has kept Auren isolated in that cage, promising to protect her, and making her believe (especially after how she was treated as a child) that the world was her enemy. It's kept her loyal. Where I'm at Auren is slowly starting to see that Midas might not be who he says he is, but she's still so brainwashed by him that she still wants to be loyal to him. Everyone thinks she's so special because he made her gold, but no one ever stopped to think that she's being just as abused as they are. And I think that's what's sad is that Auren has been groomed and is loyal to a man who is abusive and vile, but doesn't want to fight for her freedom from him because of this supposed "safety" he's given her. When in all reality she's a prisoner in the place she's supposed to call home with a man who supposedly "loves" her. When she's offered the slightest bit of kindness she sees it as someone having an ulterior motive because that's all she's been taught.
I feel like Auren and Rip are gonna have a similar conversation, but we'll see how well it goes compared to how this conversation went in the movie.
